Resources for Session 4A Day 2

At the start of our session we looked at Google URL Shortner as a way to turn long links like this one:

https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1hfrKC2mL0_wycrCUnC0x0xvJw8UecRO1CbJ3DywnJaU/edit

into more manageable and visually appealing links like this one:

If you are logged in with your Google account when you shorten the link, a QR code will be automatically generated for you as well:

QR code

Very handy if you plan of distributing print materials as people can scan the QR code to access your online resources.

The links and the QR code above will take you to the Google Presentation that we used during the session.

Thank you everyone!

Hi everyone,

just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the JAWS, and an even bigger thank you to St Christopher's for hosting us, making us all feel so welcome, and showing us some great learning, great teaching and great fun!

I certainly learned a lot and it was great to engage in some discussion and debate with you all.

If I can help any of you in the future, please do get in touch with me through sarah@greatlearning.com

Hope to see some of you on my travels in the near future,

Sarah Brown

Day 1, Session 1

Friday 12th October 2012

Session 1 - Creative Curriculum ice-breakers (Chris & Charlotte)

The morning started with a welcome from Sue Houghton, Deputy Principal, followed by a 45-minute presentation by Chris Woodhams (IPC Coordinator for Early Years & KS1) and Charlotte Ruddy (IPC Coordinator for KS2).
Chris and Charlotte gave a brief overview as to the type of school that St. Christopher's considers itself to be, and explained how we use the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) to support the delivery of a creative curriculum within our school.
The delegates were asked to take part in several dicussion and activity-based tasks that encouraged us all to think about what the word 'curriculum' describes or means, and what level of importance we would ascribe to certain features or components of a curriculum.

Day 1, Session 3

Friday 12th October 2012

Session 3 - Exit Points (Sarah Brown)

Our guest speaker, Sarah Brown (Director of Curriculum Development for the International Primary Curriculum) delivered an hour long workshop that looked at the importance of understanding what learning looks like within a classroom context. The delegates were asked to consider three aspects of learning - knowledge, skills and understanding - and to think about whether the children (or indeed the teachers themselves) would be able to identify at which point during a lesson the focus is on knowledge or skills or is allowing for understanding to develop.

Sarah also posed the question "What would your perfect school be like..?" - to which there were some very creative responses!

Day 1, Session 2

Friday 12th October 2012

Session 2 - Entry Point Excitement

Sue Houghton (Deputy Principal at St. Christopher's) delivered an hour-long workshop that focused on the role and purpose of 'Entry Points' and asked delegates to create their own new topic focus and then design an entry point to introduce the topic.

Below is a link that will take you to a video made several years ago that shows Entry Points for IPC topics that were being done at time in Year 3 (Treasure ) and Year 1 (Holidays). Some of you might recognise a face or two...!

Day 1, Classroom visits

Friday 12th October

Day 1, Classroom visits

Everyone had the opportunity to visit a range of classrooms from Nursery to Year 6, dropping in to observe the teaching and learning that was taking place, discussing learning with the children and teachers and looking at the evidence of children's learning that could be seen on display within the classrooms.

The visits took place between 10.15 and 11.15am, and we could all have probably spend at least that much time again on this activity.
